Gorgeous, Healthy Bubble Tip Anemones for Sale Online
Bubble tip anemones are some of the most common anemones found in coral reef displays and other tropical marine tanks for a variety of reasons:
- Whatever the color imparted by the photosynthetic zooxanthellae algae living in their tissue, they add color and hypnotizing motion to any display.
- If you own clownfish, they love to lounge about in the tentacles.
- If conditions are favorable, they effectively clone themselves into two anemones via binary fission.
- These bubbletip ‘nems are lovely to behold and their motion in the current draws the eye from across the room.
Bubble Tip Anemone Coral Care Guide
Experience Level
Although fairly easy to care for, we recommend our online bubble anemones for coralheads with intermediate experience or above. This is primarily because rose bulb anemones will often wander around the tank looking for the optimal location for lighting and flow. When they park in their desired location, they take on water and expand and can sting any neighboring sessile invertebrates. There are also intolerant of poor water quality. So, bear this in mind when considering adding one or more to your cart.
Optimal Water Quality Parameters
- Temperature: 72-78F, 22-25C
- pH: 8.1-8.3
- dKH: 7-11 (125-200ppm CaCO3 equivalent)
- Calcium: 375-450ppm
- Magnesium: 1275-1350ppm
- Salinity: 35ppt
- Ammonia (NH3): less than 0.1ppm
- Nitrite (NO2): less than 0.2ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): less than 0.2ppm
- Phosphates (PO4): less than 0.03ppm
Lighting Preferences:
Bubble tip anemones can thrive in moderate lighting on up to higher levels of lighting. When given the opportunity, they will often slowly move to an area with higher lighting but optimal water flow is a factor on their choice of location, as well.
Water Flow Preferences:
Just like the ‘nems on natural reefs all over the world, bubbletip anemones love lots of flow to deliver food and export waste. However, medium shifting, laminar flows seem to be preferred, as too much flow will cause the animal to expel water and shrink to protect itself from damage. Also take care to make sure they can’t get too close to outflows and powerheads, as they aren’t strong enough to pull away and prevent damage to themselves and other inhabitants of your display.
Placement Considerations:
As previously mentioned, these animals will roam around a bit in a display to find their happy spot. To protect your corals and clams from being damaged during one of these walkabouts or after settling in a preferred spot, consider placing your new anemone in a separate part of the rockwork so that it cannot move near and sting your other inverts.
Feeding Considerations:
These ‘nems get most of the nutrition they need from their symbiotic zooxanthellae and the foods they catch on the current when you feed your corals and fishes. You can also feed small bits of clam, fish, shrimp and other appropriate foods. It’s fun to feed your anemones but make sure that you don’t overdo it. If you feed them again before they get a chance to export the digested waste in their body cavity, it will decompose and likely cause a bacterial infection, severely harming and perhaps killing your anemone.
Online Bubble Tip Anemones Professionally Propagated In-House
All the bubbletip ‘nems we sell on the Internet are propagated in-house by our team and placed in dedicated quarantine systems while they heal. Some, of course, self-propagate by binary fission while attached to the rockwork and acrylic in our holding systems. In either case, we don’t sell any of our anemones online until they are fully healed and ready for our customers’ systems. This is one of the many ways we go above and beyond to ensure that our clients get a running start on their success with our corals and inverts. Thanks for looking!
