Buying Live Coral Frags Online

Buy Coral Online and Have It Shipped to Your Door

The times in which we live allow us to maintain astounding displays of vibrant tropical fish and mesmerizing corals. Just a few decades ago much of this aqueous world was simply inaccessible to the average aquarium hobbyist. The advent of modern reefing technologies has allowed us to better care for these peculiar aquatic lifeforms. The ability to keep coral alive despite being away from their natal reefs many thousands of miles away in your living room’s aquarium is simply remarkable given the water quality, temperature, and light requirements we know these animals require.

Higher Expectation of Service and Quality

Whether you have started your first reef tank or are a seasoned pro looking for just the right signature frag to fill the void in your reef, we realize there is a lot of competition online for your eyeballs. Unlike most other coral sales sites we actually care how successful you are once you receive your new corals. We take pride in not only offering stunning corals of substance and vitality, but we also care that we provide you the resources to properly care for your new addition once it arrives.

We have spent countless hours pouring our knowledge of reef keeping into developing content geared toward the care of corals as well as additional situations you might face as a reefer. Unfortunately, if you have been in the reef hobby long enough you have likely experienced algae blooms of plague proportion, outbreaks of flatworms, and the maladies of other undesirable hitchhikers. We make every attempt to remedy these issues by quarantining our corals so that such issues never manifest in your reef aquarium. Our documentation of the best practices to mitigate such indignations is a hallmark of our site that we are proud of and the commitment we make to you as a hobbyist.

About Us and Our Facility

We are a small operation with a small crew of seasoned professionals who have earned degrees in Aquarium Science, Aquaculture, and Coral Biology. Our staff has worked in areas such as public aquaria, coral and tropical fish wholesale, bivalve production, as well as coral collection for gene sequencing and zooxanthellae analysis.

Our facility is nestled in the temperate rainforests of Portland, Oregon, and is comprised of several thousands of gallons of holding and propagation space. For us it’s not about selling pretty colored coral at ridiculous prices, it’s about sharing knowledge and expertise that benefits the hobby at every level.

While we are not a major player in the coral trade, we are well connected with wholesalers in the United States and abroad to make sure we can acquire the best quality corals possible. While the coral industry still relies on wild stock for filling your aquarium, we have made a conscientious effort to bring you aquacultured and maricultured corals whenever possible. While we find wild collection one of the few black marks on the hobby it would be ignorant to assume that there is no appreciable harm done to natural reefs when corals are harvested. We are strong proponents of the culture of corals and marine fish for the aquarium hobby.

Shipping Corals Around the Globe

Due to our proximity to the major import hub of Los Angeles and lower living costs in the Pacific Northwest, we find Portland is the ideal location to operate our business. We know that corals we receive from our wholesale partners have only spent a few hours in their transport packaging before we unbag them for acclimation to our systems. By comparison, many of the vendors located further east are likely receiving corals that have been subject to stressful conditions at least twice as long due to the sheer distance of travel.

We realize it would be hypocritical to turn around and ship coral from Portland to Newark just a short time later, which is why we hold our corals for an extended period to ensure health and vitality. Bear in mind that when many corals are delivered to local retailers they have likely spent but a few days in holding systems at wholesalers. Prior to that, corals are harvested in the South Pacific such as Fiji, Tonga, and Australia and shipped nearly 12 hours to Los Angeles (major import hub), and as much as 20 hours if they are coming from Indonesia. Those are stressful flights for any living organism and do little to promote the health of the coral which leads to compromised animals upon arrival.

We acknowledge the stresses and strain that are placed upon our calcareous friends, which is why we believe we are doing right by you the consumer, and the coral by delivering a strong and healthy frag through proper prolonged quarantine and holding. This allows the corals time to heal from physical and physiological damage incurred by multiple shipping’s. In practice, this should yield a much stronger frag capable of making it from our facility to your living room’s reef with little drama.

Coral Frags Shipped Across the United States

Regardless of your location, we take pride in prompt delivery of your order wherever you live in the United States. On the scheduled delivery day we always recommend you are home to receive your order as soon as the delivery driver leaves it at your door. This is to minimize the stresses placed on your new arrival and that it returns to more favorable conditions as soon as possible.

Upon arrival and inspection of your frag, it is best to provide the frag a quick 30-minute acclimation from its shipping water to your aquarium. While most reef aquariums have relatively consistent parameters, we still recommend a slow acclimation to ensure minimal stresses are placed on the frag just in case there is a difference in water quality.

As always if you have questions or concerns with your new arrival please get in touch with us through our contact form and happy reefing!
