Euphyllia Coral Frags Online to add Dazzling Color and Motion to Your Reef Tank

Euphyllia corals are among the most iconic large polyp stony corals available anywhere and few reefers don’t have at least one species of Euphyllia in their collection. Also commonly called hammer corals, torch corals and frogspawn corals, Euphyllia polyps have distinctively long stalks ending in lobes that are curved, bulbous and often differently colored. All our Euphyllia corals for sale online are propagated in-house, which reduces collection pressure in the wild and makes for happier, healthier Euphyllia frags for our clients.

Coral Care Guide

Experience Level

Our Euphyllia frags can be a good choice for beginners, provided they are acclimated to fully cycled systems with stable water quality parameters close to optimal.

Optimal Water Quality Parameters

  • Temperature: 72-78F, 22-25C
  • pH: 8.1-8.3
  • dKH: 7-11 (125-200ppm CaCO3 equivalent)
  • Calcium: 375-450ppm
  • Magnesium: 1275-1350ppm
  • Salinity: 35ppt
  • Ammonia (NH3): less than 0.1ppm
  • Nitrite (NO2): less than 0.2ppm
  • Nitrate (NO3): less than 0.2ppm
  • Phosphates (PO4): less than 0.03ppm

Lighting Preferences:

The photoysynthetic and symbiotic zooxanthellae algae living the tissue of each Euphyllia polyp prefer medium lighting usually found in the middle or lower-middle part of most reef displays. Pay close attention to the depth of color, turgidity and length of each tentacle on each polyp to determine whether or not to move your Euphyllia frag higher or lower in the water column.

Water Flow Preferences:

Euphyllia corals like flows that are pretty much right in the middle. You want flows that animate the polyps and gently move them back and forth without thrashing the delicate polyps against their stony skeletons or the surrounding rockwork.

Placement Considerations:

Start your new Euphyllia frag somewhere in the lower half of your display and let it adjust to your system without too much direct lighting or flow. Euphyllia have extraordinarily long sweeper tentacles, so leave plenty of space around it. Closely monitor it and watch how or if the polyps fully extend before choosing another location. As with any coral, patience is key for coral health and the development of coralhead expertise!

Feeding Considerations:

Euphyllia does benefit from supplementary feeds but make sure to feed it lightly with typical LPS foods no more that twice a week. Also make sure to test your WQ weekly to ensure that you’re not overfeeding and trashing your water chemistry.
