Stunning Toxic Hammer Coral Frags For Sale Online
Under favorable conditions, toxic hammer corals can have a green, greenish-yellow, or yellowish-green color of uncommon depth and beauty. Seemingly electric and unnatural in intensity, our toxic splatter coral frags for sale online are simply stunning when the lighting, water chemistry and flows are dialed in and stable. Sourced initially from Australian reefs, Our toxic hammer frags have retained their vibrant green and yellow polyps by receiving loving care, proper lighting levels and our unwavering attention to maintaining stable and optimal water quality parameters. Our success isn’t accidental; it’s hard work, proactive system and WQ maintenance and superb customer service. But as the old (but perhaps modified) saying goes: The proof is in the Fragging!
Toxic Hammer Coral Care Guide
Experience Level
Intermediate or above. These Euphyllia frags aren’t called “toxic” for nothing. Our online toxic hammer frags have mesentery filaments, also called sweeper tentacles, which can extend at least 6 inches from the hammer polyp to sting and potentially kill, nearby corals and other sessile inverts. If you’re buying a toxic hammer frag for the first time, plan on giving it plenty of room in your quarantine tank and your display.
Optimal Water Quality Parameters
- Temperature: 72-78F, 22-25C
- pH: 8.1-8.3
- dKH: 7-11 (125-200ppm CaCO3 equivalent)
- Calcium: 375-450ppm
- Magnesium: 1275-1350ppm
- Salinity: 35ppt
- Ammonia (NH3): less than 0.1ppm
- Nitrite (NO2): less than 0.2ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): less than 0.2ppm
- Phosphates (PO4): less than 0.03ppm
Lighting Preferences:
Generally, toxic hammers do best under medium lighting but much will depend on the type(s) of lighting you have over your display, your water chemistry and its stability and the PAR levels throughout your display. We almost always recommend starting your new frag off in an area with less intense lighting and gradually moving it into higher lighting. That way, the symbiotic zooxanthellae living in the coral tissue have a chance to adjust to the new levels.
Water Flow Preferences:
We recommend low-to-medium flows for our online toxic hammer coral frags. They can usually withstand higher flows for short periods of time but make sure that these are not sustained or the coral polyp will likely purge water from its polyps and shrink, drastically reducing the surface area for photosynthesis. Flows that are too intense can also cause the entire polyp to shrink on its skeletal base to protect itself. Keep a close eye on this when experimenting with flows.
Placement Considerations:
Medium light. Medium flow. Plenty of acreage around it. Best results for your toxic hammer frag and everything living around it will be achieved by some variation on those three simple considerations. In time, you can start experimenting with the lighting and flow for optimal polyp extension and coloration but always allow 6+ inches of space around your toxic hammer colony or there will be collateral damage as the colony guards (and enforces) its living space.
Feeding Considerations:
Like most LPS species, it’s really not necessary to feed your toxic hammer frag but if great care is taken, it can thrive when given planktonic coral foods either commercially available or cultured by you. That said, if you choose to feed, make sure that you understand that any additional nutrients that enter your closed system will have to be offset and monitored by frequent water quality testing and tracking and additional maintenance or your water chemistry (and corals!) will suffer.
